Argentina

The land of the tango! the second largest country in South America by land area and eighth in the world. Between the Andes mountain range in the west and the southern Atlantic ocean in the east and south. Argentina, is subject to a variety of climates. As a rule, the climate is predominantly temperate with extremes ranging from subtropical in the north, to subpolar in the far south. The north is characterised by very hot and humid summers, south warm summers and cold winters with heavy snowfall. Cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, Rosario and ocean-front Mar del Plata and Pinamar, the Iguazu Falls; colonial Salta and Jujuy Province rich in indigenous culture, the scenic foothills of Cordoba, the wineries of Mendoza; the ski slopes and lakes near Bariloche and the grottoes at San Antonio, Perito Moreno Glacier and Tierra del Fuego. Argentina can be roughly divided to four parts: The fertile plains of the Pampas in the center; the flat to rolling, oil rich plateau of Patagonia; the subtropical flats of the Gran Ghaco in the North; the rugged Andes mountain range along the western border with Chile.

Patagonia it contains the southermost portion of South America. Located in Argentina and Chile, it comprises the Andes Mountains to the west ans south and plateaux and low plains to the east. East of the Andes, the Argentine portion includes among others the provinces of Santa Cruz and Tierra del Fuego as well as the southern tips of the provinces of Buenos Aires, Mendoza and La Pampa. The Chilean portion embraces the southern part of the region of Los Lagos. It excludes those portions of Antartica claimed by both countries.
